S'Estanyol de Migjorn - Mallorca Island Map 6.12

S'Estanyol de Migjorn is a development of second residences in the municipality of Llucmajor, located between Punta Plana and sa Ràpita. It is flat, and the abundant sand that occasionally accumulates there cuts off an area of water, forming ponds, giving rise to the Catalan name s'Estanyol (pond). The centre started to be developed at the beginning of the century when an estate, known as son Fideu, was separated off.

The first to build houses in s'Estanyol de Migjorn were wealthy families from Llucmajor. It has continued to grow steadily down to the present day, maintaining the local style of low houses. There are no hotels or apartments and the area is surprisingly quiet even during the summer months. The lack of a beach adjoining the village is one of the reasons it has not suffered from overdevelopment.
