Cala Pi - Mallorca Island Map 5.12

Cala Pi, Mallorca, Spain

Between Cap Blanc and Vallgornera, four kilometres from the settlement of Capocorb, is Cala Pi, one of the most sheltered beaches on the Llucmajor coastline. The cove and the development take their name from the stream that runs down to the sea. Near the beach, which is some fifty metres wide, are the houses belonging to the development. At the entrance to the cove is the defence tower. Sixteenth century texts underline the defensive capacity of Cala Pi. It had a capacity for 10 galleys "but being situated between the cliffs, it was difficult to disembark there and could only be managed by using rope ladders."

Near Cala Pi, in the direction of Cap Blanc, is the somewhat smaller Cala Beltran. Throughout history is has been considered a strategic spot for navigation. According to legend, the much-feared Barba Roja landed in Cala Beltran before plundering the area.

Cala Beltran

Very close to Cala Pi we find the mouth of the Torrent de Cala Beltran. It is much smaller than Cala Pi and is still undeveloped. The small sandy beach lies at the end of the narrow, winding inlet between the cliffs. It can be reached on foot from Cala Pi. Being so closed, it accumulates a lot of dirt washed up from the sea.
