Banyalbufar - Mallorca Island Map 2.5

With its distinctive terraces running down to the sea, Banyalbufar has become one of the classic picture postcard views of Majorca. On the coast, Port des Canonge and the beaches of s'Arenal, Cala Banyalbufar, sa Pedra de s' Ase and sa Calera are very popular spots.

In Banyalbufar, the Baronia tower is a prominent landmark, together with the terraces of fertile soil on the mountain slopes. Located next to the seventeenth century church, part of this defence tower now houses a hostel. A wrought iron gate with the inscription "Baronia" indicates the entrance to a beautiful patio. In the church there is a historic organ that was transferred from the convent of Sant Domingo de Palma in 1847.

The sea can be seen from the window of this remarkable building, as it can from most of the houses in Banyalbufar. The extensive network of irrigation channels and fountains are distributed by means of a hydraulic system introduced during the period of Moslem rule. Historians have given the name of Ma'jil to this water distribution network, a distinctive feature of the town that can still be seen today.
