Cala Bona - Mallorca Island Map 12.7
Cala Bona originates from a refuge for fishing boats and is now a group of three artificial beaches frequented by tourists staying at the local hotels. The design of these beaches, with closed breakwaters, makes it extremely safe. The shallow waters make it idea for families with small children. It is also very easy to reach. Vehicles should be parked some distance from the shore.
The port at Cala Bona has a narrow entrance. To enter, boats should position themselves between Punta de n'Amer and Cap des Pinar. It is easy to recognise the port. On the breakwater are two lighthouses painted in red white and black-white squares. Boats up to eight metres in length can moor here.
Cala Millor is the generic name given to the development that runs from Punta de n'Amer to Cala Bona. It is one of the most frequented of the eastern coast and is one of the main tourist resorts in the Balearic Islands.
The first tourist establishment, the Hotel Eureka which has since disappeared, was built at the beginning of the thirties. This area was name under different names such as son Moro, sa
Roea Seea, Davant d'Hort, sa Maniga and Cala Nau. The developers chose the generic name of Cala Millar - millor, "better" in Catalan - as a play on the name of the neighbouring beach, Cala Bona - bona, "good" in Catalan.
Cala Millor is divided between two municipal areas, son Servera and Sant Llorenç. Although the visitor sees no separation from the beach, the difference can he told on the seafront. The tourist area of son Servera is the oldest and is more saturated than Sant Llorenç. The calle del Sol Neixent marks the boundary between the two areas.
Many excursions by bicycle can be made from Cala Millor, through the municipalities of son Servera and ant Llorenç.
