Portopetro - Mallorca Island Map 10.12

Portopetro, Mallorca, Spain

Portopetro, which still appears to be a small fishing village, has become a large size tourist centre with many houses and the holiday town of Club Mediterranee, which has taken over most of Caló de sa Torre. Portopetro, despite the proximity to Cala d'Or, conserves its traditional character.

Although an increasing area has been developed over recent years, it maintains its harmony. Most facilities are to be found in the old town, next to the harbour. Here we find different bars and restaurants as well as showers and toilets. The seafood dishes served in these restaurants should not be missed. From Portopetro excursions can be made to any of the towns in the municipal area of Santanyí. S'Alqueria is the closest place and very near there stands the chapel of Consolació (205 metres), an excellent mirador over this particular stretch of coastline.

Portopetro is also the starting point for boat tours to Cala Figuera, Mondragó, Cabrera and the neighbouring beaches. It is also a stopping place for other boats leaving Cala d'Or on their way to Mondragó. Some include meals and time for bathing. The Nature Park of Mondragó can be reached on foot.

Beaches.

Cala de sa Torre

This takes its name from the old, semi-ruinous defence tower. It is formed by two small coves, separated by a headland of low rocks. Just inland is the holiday town Club Mediterranee, which blends into the pine grove. The beaches are small, sandy and fairly flat. Most bathers are customers from the nearby tourist establishments and holidaymakers from Portopetro.

Calo de ses Egües

This small, sandy beach, fringed by buildings, is just over twenty metres long. It is part of the Cala d'Or development, which stretches from this beach to Cala Figuera. It can be reached from the town of Calonge, after passing several roundabouts. There are beach umbrellas, sunbeds, beach bar, and nearby bars and restaurants.
