Camp de Mar - Mallorca Island Map 1.8

Camp de Mar, Mallorca, Spain

Camp de Mar is the last development within the municipality of Andratx, close to the boundary of the municipal district of Calvia. Cap Andritxol, which has not been developed, separates the municipal ities of Andratx and Calvia. The most notable residential developments in Camp de Mar are Biniorella, Cap Andritxol and es Salinar. The first of these buildings to be raised date back to the 1950s. Camp de Mar mainly consists of second homes, although there are also three hotels and several apartment blocks. The painter, patron of the arts and spy Thomas Harris bought a house in Camp de Mar in 1949.

Although the residential developments have not stopped growing in the last few decades, Camp de Mar still preserves the peaceful appearance of a town that has not become overcrowded. The first buildings at Cala Fornells date back to the beginning of the twentieth century.  Natacha Rambowa, the wife of Rodolfo Valentino, lived in a house built in 1926, known as ses Roques or Ca na Tacha.

Beaches.

Camp de Mar

This sandy beach is 190 metres long and 16 metres wide. In the centre of the beach a wooden walkway provides access to a restaurant built on the little island that presides over the cove. In the surrounding area, the pines that cloak the hillside come right down to the rocks by the sea. The small bay of Camp de Mar also contains Cala Blanca, a cove of shingle and stones.

Cala Fornells

Situated in the municipality of Calvia, Cala Fornells is a small beach of sand and rocks, 100 metres long and 9 metres wide. The sand is fine and golden in colour, and sunbeds and deck chairs may be hired. In the area nearest Peguera there is a sea inlet that is used as a dry dock for small boats. Cala Fornells is surrounded by hotels and can be reached by two roads: the first, which runs along the edge of the coast, is longer and more picturesque; the other is more practical and can be taken by turning off the old road between Palma and Andratx. The beach is visited by tourists staying in the nearby hotels and the owners of the numerous summer houses in the area. Next to Cala Fornells lies Caló de ses Llises, which is smaller and of similar characteristics.

Peguera Romana

The smallest of the three beaches in Peguera is Peguera Romana, the first one as you approach from Palma. The development around it is the wealthiest in the area. According to some sources, Platja dels Morts owes its name to some prehistoric tombs that were found some years ago near the beach, which, like all the others, is now an expanse of beach umbrellas, sunbeds and pedalos. The pines and the access road ome down as far as the sand.

Peguera Palmira

Also known in the past as Playa des Pouet, the largest of the three beaches at Peguera is surrounded by hotels, apartments and summer houses, like most of the coastline in the municipality of Calvia. A small rocky point separates this beach from Peguera Tora. A seafront promenade runs along the back of the entire beach, although it does not link up with the neighbouring beach of Tora. The three beaches have a lifeguard service, deckchairs, beach umbrellas and pedalos, in addition to bars and restaurants.
