Always popular with British visitors this pretty little resort grew up around a picturesque harbour used by local fishermen. These days instead of fishing nets and warehouses the quayside has a number of cafe-bars and restaurants where holidaymakers take time out for a coffee during the day.
Beaches:
3 golden sandy beaches run alongside the resort and are safe for youngsters. All the ‘coves’ have good facilities; sun loungers, parasols, watersports. Cafes, for those essential cooling drinks, are within easy reach of the beaches.
All are awarded the Blue Flag.
Nightlife:
Evenings are quieter than the neighbouring resort of Cala Millor, most places start to close about midnight, but there’s plenty of choice for dining out or enjoying a drink and a chat. Live entertainment can be found at some of the pubs. A favourite way to spend the early evening is relaxing on the quayside of the harbour over a drink whilst watching the coming and goings.
Who goes there:
British families and older couples looking for a relaxing holiday.
Accommodation:
Mainly hotels although there are a small number of apartments giving the self-catering option. You’ll find no high-rise here and many of them are still family run.
What to do:
- Boat trips from the harbour to nearby resorts and beaches
- Walk into Cala Millor for a lively night or shopping trip.
- Auto Safari Zoo (courtesy buses leave form the resort)
- Caves del Drach at nearby Porto Cristo
- Manacor – the main town of the area and the centre of the ‘pearl’ industry
Fiestas:
July 16th - Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint of all seamen. There’s a special Mass, torchlight boat procession and various concerts in the harbour
Psst! At the end of September Cala Bona celebrates tourist week. Special activities, Gala Dinner, open air concerts and a spectacular firework display all to thank the holidaymakers.
