Originally the capital of Majorca during Roman times, the grandure of this town is set by it's imposing entrance.
Alcudia Old Town is starting to become a destination in itself for holidaymakers seeking a more traditional Spanish flavour bursting with culture and history. With a wealth of Moorish and Roman influences around every corner and the hustle and bustle of a living town visitors aren't dispointed!
The town is built from the traditional stone and amongst the ordinary houses are a number of impressive mansions once owned by the wealthy. Continue to search as you wander the narrow streets, delibrately built close together to provide shade in the heat of summer, and you'll come across historic churches, impressive buildings and both Roman and Moorish remains. Two spots worth looking out for are the Roman theatre and the church of Santa Anna founded in the 13th century.
It's a great day out if you're holidaying in the port area, especially when the traditional market is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Although atmospheric it can get quite busy so do try and get there early...especially in the hotter months to give yourself a chance to explore.
Accommodation:
A side effect of the increased popularity of this town is the opening of a small number of Boutique hotels catering for the more trendy holidaymaker. It's a place that would suit a weekend break with a difference rather than the traditional sun, sand and sea.
